Louise Talma (1906-1996)
Louise Talma's "The Tolling Bell" celebrated the MacDowell Club's 60th Anniversary, the Milwaukee Symphony's tenth season and the opening season of the long-awaited Performing Arts Center. In November 1969, New York City Opera baritone William Metcalf sang the premiere under the baton of Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn. John W. Downey (1927-2004)
John Downey's Piano Trio, Op. 84, was commissioned to commemorate the MacDowell Club's 75th anniversary. It was dedicated to Leonard Sorkin and premiered November 20, 1984, at the Athenaeum, by Leonard Sorkin, violin (Director of the UW-Milwaukee Chamber Music Institute); Loren Brown (Principal Cello with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra); and the composer at the piano. Michael Torke's "Song of Ecclesiastes" marked the MacDowell Club's 100th Anniversary and was premiered by Milwaukee baritone Kurt Ollmann and the composer at the piano at a celebratory Gala held at the Athenaenium on May 19, 2009. Biography.
